Recruiters for jobs in the financial industry look for resumes that follow a particular style, format, and structure. Our expert financial resume writers are experienced in developing financial resumes that conform to these standards while effectively communicating the applicant’s unique qualifications.
Keys to a Successful Finance Resume:
- Organization. Make sure you organize your information in a logical way that is easy to read and that highlights your most relevant experience, qualifications, certifications, etc. List work experience in reverse-chronological order, starting with your most recent position and working back from there.
- Keywords. The best way to tailor your financial resume to a specific position is to start with the job listing. Highlight key words in the position description and list of required qualifications, and incorporate as many of them as you can in your resume. The employer has already told you what they’re looking for — if they catch these keywords on a quick skim of your resume, they’ll be much more likely to keep reading and consider you for the job.
- Clear, professional language. Write in a professional tone, avoiding colloquialisms and other casual or quirky language, and make it as easy as possible for recruiters and employers to understand what you’ve accomplished and how your experience makes you the best candidate for the position. And check your grammar. ALWAYS check your grammar.
- Data and specific achievements. Whenever possible, give detailed information and offer quantifiable examples of your achievements (if you’re applying for a numbers job, give them numbers!). Did you increase sales by 30%? How many accounts did you reconcile in your previous position? Don’t forget to list any skills and certifications you have that are applicable to the position, including proficiency in relevant software or systems.

Common Questions & Answers
» Should you add your GPA on your finance resume?
That depends. Are you just starting out, or have you been in the finance industry for years? It’s 100% optional to include your GPA on your resume. If you have less than three years of professional experience and your undergrad or graduate GPA was 3.5 or higher, then go ahead and include it. If you have three or more years of work experience in finance or had a GPA below 3.5, leave it out.
» How do you emphasize your finance technical skills in your resume?
Give them their own section! Create a separate “skills” or “core competencies” heading, then list the relevant technical skills, either in a paragraph or as separate bullet points.
»  Should you include your interests on a resume for finance?
Only if they pertain to the specific job you are applying for. In other words, you should include the fact that you offer free financial planning help to residents at a local nursing home, or that you are the treasurer for your neighborhood community group, but unless the company sells tennis rackets, there’s no need to include your love of tennis.
