What are the Elements of a Real Estate Resume? 1. Name And Contact Information — This one might seem obvious, but make sure your name and title are in a large, bold font at the top of your resume, followed by your email, phone number, and location. As many of our resume writing service clients have discovered, an eye-catching resume goes a long way in this profession, and name recognition is key. 2. Career Summary or Objective— If you’ve just passed your real estate exam and are looking for a broker to sponsor you, or if you recently got your real estate license and are looking to land a job at a new firm, start your resume with a one- to three-sentence career objective. The purpose of a career objective is to highlight relevant skills, achievements, and training and give recruiters and employers a quick elevator pitch about why they want you on their team. If you have more than a few years’ experience as a real estate agent, start your resume with a career summary. This blurb (also one to three sentences) should give employers a succinct and engaging snapshot of your real estate career, including how long you’ve been in the profession, your specializations/certifications/awards, and unique strengths and skills (specifically relevant to the job you are targeting). 3. Skills — Make this a list, either in bullet points in a sidebar or in paragraph form right under your career summary/objective, and tailor it to the description of the specific job you are applying to. Some skills that are especially important for real estate resumes include: negotiation, customer service / interpersonal skills, math, marketing and social media, technological competency, knowledge and understanding of related federal and local laws, networking, flexibility and resourcefulness, and trustworthiness. 4. Previous Work Experience -- List your professional experience in reverse chronological order (starting with your most recent/current position). If you are new to real estate and do not have relevant experience, highlight the skills you gained in each previous job that will help you excel as a real estate agent at your desired company. If you have years of experience in real estate, tailor each description to the job you’re applying for, using keywords from the job description. Whether you’re a real estate newbie or pro, include as many metrics as possible in the work experience section of your resume. For example, instead of “helped increase sales,” write “increased sales by 20% between 2020 and 2022.” 5. Education and Certification/License -- Either at the bottom of your resume or in a sidebar, list your educational history. If you have your real estate license, include it here along with the state(s) in which you are licensed.
